PRAGUE, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The municipality of Doksany in the north of the Czech Republic set a new June record on Wednesday with a temperature of 38.9 degrees Celsius, according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute.
Until now, the highest temperature on record in the Czech Republic in June was 38.2 degrees Celsius. That record was set in 100.
The record temperatures came coupled with a smog alert in the Usti Region on Wednesday afternoon due to high ground-level ozone concentrations. Children and the elderly should avoid increased physical stress, the institute said.
The highest temperature ever recorded in the Czech Republic was 40.4 degrees Celsius, measured in Dobrichovice near Prague on Aug. 20, 2012.
